As a Gwinnett County native and former star player at Parkview High School, Matt Olson had the privilege of witnessing Andruw Jones’ mesmerizing performances for the Braves.
Jones, a legend in his own right, held the Braves franchise record for most home runs in a single season with 51, a feat he accomplished during the 2005 season. For Olson, surpassing the record of a player he idolized undoubtedly adds to the significance of this accomplishment.
The Braves have had a remarkable season, becoming the first team this year to secure a spot in the playoffs. This achievement marks their sixth consecutive playoff run.
However, they still have their sights set on clinching the NL East division title against the Philadelphia Phillies. Olson’s record-breaking performance only adds to the excitement and momentum fueling the Braves as they chase postseason success.
Matt Olson has always been a standout player, even during his high school years at Parkview High School. His performance on the field was so exceptional that the school decided to retire his uniform number, 21, in 2019.
Andruw Jones, a respected figure in Braves’ history, was known for his incredible athleticism and power-hitting abilities.
However, despite his immense talents, Jones never hit more than 39 home runs in a single season before this year.
Olson has not only surpassed Jones but also become the only other player in the Braves history to hit 50 home runs in a season.
