Is Brandon Staley on the Hot Seat? Chargers Fans Growing Impatient After Loss to Titans

The Los Angeles Chargers are coming off a gut-wrenching loss to the Tennessee Titans. After scratching and clawing their way back to force overtime, the Chargers came up just short in their 27-24 loss. The disappointing loss puts the Chargers in an 0-2 hole to start the season and fans are growing impatient with head coach Brandon Staley.

Staley was hired to be the head coach of the Chargers in 2021 after an impressive run as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams. Regarded as one of the brightest defensive minds in the NFL, the Chargers’ defense has been insufficient at best since Staley’s arrival.

In his first two full seasons as coach of the Chargers, Staley’s defenses have ranked near the bottom in opponent points per game and yards allowed per game.

Not to mention, Chargers fans are still beside themselves after Staley and the Chargers blew a 27-point lead and allowed the Jacksonville Jaguars to mount one of the largest comebacks in NFL history in last year’s Wild Card matchup.

Staley is 19-17 through 36 games as the Chargers’ head coach. While the team has enjoyed some success under Staley, this roster has Super Bowl aspirations.

They have an elite franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert to pair with an impressive group of offensive linemen and skill position players such as Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler, Mike Williams, and Rashawn Slater in addition to having one of the more talented defensive units in the NFL led by Joey Bosa and Derwin James.

Chargers fans are starting to wonder if Staley was the right man for the job and how much longer he will be around if the team continues to disappoint.
