Giants running back Saquon Barkley suffered an injury to his right ankle during the team’s recent comeback win against the Cardinals.
The severity of the injury is yet to be determined, but initial X-rays suggest that it may be a regular sprain rather than a high-ankle sprain, which is a more serious condition.
An MRI will be conducted on Monday in Arizona to provide more clarity on the extent of the injury.
Though Barkley’s ankle was visibly swollen, the Giants remain hopeful for a positive outcome.

Following the game, Giants coach Brian Daboll stated that he did not have any specific information regarding the severity of Barkley’s injury. This lack of detail adds to the uncertainty surrounding the running back’s condition.
Barkley, a two-time Pro Bowler, had a solid performance prior to the injury, rushing for 63 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, as well as catching six passes for 29 yards and another touchdown.
It’s worth noting that Barkley has a history of ankle injuries.
In 2019, he missed three games due to a right ankle injury and four games this season due to a left ankle injury. The recurrence of ankle problems is unfortunate and raises concerns about his long-term durability and ability to stay healthy.
Considering the short gap between the current game and the Giants’ upcoming matchup against the 49ers on Thursday night, it appears unlikely that Barkley will be able to play.
