"We needed this [win] bad" admits Seahawks HC Pete Carroll

The Seahawks were in danger of starting the season with back-to-back losses, but they steadied the ship to defeat the impressive Detroit Lions in overtime.

The Seattle based head coach Pete Caroll said after the game, “We all know what happened last week,” referring to their week 1 defeat to the Rams, and admitted, “We needed this badly.”

The Seahawk’s were rattled by the Rams in their season opener losing 13-30 at home, and they were on the verge of surrendering a 10-point lead against the Lions, who somehow managed to take the game into overtime.

Winning the vital OT toss meant the Seahawks offense had a chance to shone and Geno Smith went 6-from-7 for 69 yards to close out the game with a six-yard touchdown.

There was much introspection for the NFC West team during week 2, especially after losing to their division rivals the Rams first out, and it took an impassioned message from veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner to set the tone.

The midweek speech focused on the short-term, with the long-term plan taking a backseat.

No team wants to go 0-2, especially losing against the team that beat the defending Superbowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs in round 1. The Lions, after an impressive comeback, will be kicking themselves for a poor overtime defensive display.

Smith threw 32-41 and for 328 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions, and this ultimately proved the difference.

The Seattle team next faces the Panthers at home while the Rams take on the Bengals away from home.
