ABC to Air ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” Games Due to Hollywood Strikes, Cable industry furious

The Writers Guild and Actors Guild’s continuous strikes in Hollywood are significantly affecting the entertainment business. Due to these protracted conflicts, the effect is seen on the television plans for major networks.

The protesters request improvement in payscale, more openness about data on streaming audiences, and safeguards against the application of artificial intelligence.

Recently ABC decided to add ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” games to its schedule due to the strikes going on in the entertainment industry.

The games usually air on ESPN and its cable channels. Occasional simulcasts and exclusive games are also aired on ABC. Since both these networks are owned by the Walt Disney Co.

Given the value of live sporting events, ABC rescheduling its shows to accommodate the NFL on Monday nights.

However, because there isn’t any fresh content to offer, ABC will continue to broadcast an NFL Monday game each week for the remainder of the season.

Cable providers are not happy that Disney is charging for both ESPN and ABC even though they are airing the same premium programming, according to Sports Business Journal.

ESPN commands a high premium from distributors due to their exclusive live sports content.
