Los Angeles Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani was placed on the 15-day injured list and later announced that he will miss the remaining games of this season.

Angels manager Phil Nevin commented on Ohtani’s possible departure, which is attracting a lot of attention. He said,

“All 30 teams will definitely want him as a hitter, he has great value as a hitter alone.”

Due to his injury, and after Friday night’s loss to the Detroit Tigers, Ohtani’s locker at Angel Stadium was seen emptied and a packed bag.

It has also been notified that Ohtani won’t be joining the Angels on their visit to Tampa Bay and the Minnesota Twins.

As advised, he is presumed to undergo surgery on his right elbow, even though it has not been officially announced yet what type of surgery will be required.

Ohtani tore his ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow on Aug. 23 and an oblique injury on Sept. 4 forcing him to miss the rest of the season.

The pitcher/hitter remains a pending free agent and could have played in an Angels uniform for the last time, the Angels remain confident they can re-sign Ohtani.

The Angels Manager Phil Nevin is also positive, saying that he’s hoping that Ohtani decides to re-sign with the Angels this off season.

He said,
“Of course, I want him back,”
“Everybody here wants Him. But there are 30 teams that also want Shohei on their team.”
“It would mean the world to me if Ohtani came back. I think he fits well in the clubhouse with his relationships with the other players.”
