We are just two weeks into the 2023 season and the NFL’s National Football Conference (NFC) is already making history, with seven different teams starting their season 2-0 according to ESPN Stats & Info. The Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Atlanta Falcons are all 2-0.
The Cowboys have looked like a juggernaut through two weeks with their defense wreaking havoc and taking over games early and often. They dismantled the New York Giants 40-0 in Week 1 on NBC’s Sunday Night Football before destroying the Jets 30-10 in Week 2. Through two weeks, the defense has recorded 10 sacks, five interceptions, and two fumbles.
Through two weeks, the 49ers have reminded us why they were able to reach the NFC Championship Game last season. After blowing out the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1, the team traveled to Los Angeles to face the Rams and defeated their divisional foe. The offense has looked unstoppable thus far, scoring 30 points in consecutive games.
Last year’s NFC Champions, the Eagles are 2-0, but it hasn’t been pretty. Uncharacteristically, the team has turned the ball over in consecutive games which allowed the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings to hang around. Nonetheless, they’re 2-0.
Similar to the Eagles, it hasn’t been pretty for quarterback Sam Howell and the Commanders. It took fourth-quarter comebacks in each game against the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos to advance to 2-0, but they did it.
Offseason quarterback acquisition Derek Carr is already looking comfortable in his debut season with the Saints. After 9 years with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, Carr and the Saints have gotten off to a fast start and should only improve with time.
The Buccaneers are arguably the most surprising team on this list. After losing future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady to retirement, not many people expected this team to remain competitive. Alas, here they are.
Rookie running back sensation Bijan Robinson has shown exactly why the Falcons selected him with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. His 255 yards from scrimmage is currently tied for the fourth-highest in the NFL.
