“I have a lot of confidence” OC O’Brien about Rookie WR Demario Douglas after he was Benched Despite Promising Start

Rookie wide receiver Demario “Pop” Douglas has made a significant impact for the New England Patriots in the first two games of the season.

Despite this, he found himself on the bench for most of the last game against the Miami Dolphins.

The reason behind his absence was a costly fumble that resulted in a touchdown for the Dolphins.

However, Demario isn’t the first player to fumble or has fallen out of favor under Bill Belichick’s guidance.

Nevertheless, offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien assures fans that Douglas’ benching was not a reflection of his future prospects.

According to O’Brien, he believes that Douglas will learn from his mistake and grow from it. O’Brien also repeated that he has not lost his confidence in the rookie wide receiver.

“Ball security is obviously a huge part of what we preach. I have a lot of confidence in Pop Douglas, as I do all the players that we have,” O’Brien said, via Nick O’Malley of MassLive.com.

“I think as the game played out the other day, because of what we did, the packages that we went to, whether we were in no-hudle or some of the things that we were doing, It just wasn’t Pop on the field.

At the end of the day, I think we have to do a better job of continuing to get everybody involved in the game plan throughout the game and that’s what we’ll do.”

With the Patriots currently sitting at 0 -2 and only scoring 37 points in the first two games.
