Chris "Mad Dog" Russo is a Hall of Fame radio broadcaster, and has been on the airwaves since 1988, but even the best sound bytes often come back to chew us in the butt.
Russo recently referred to Kansas City Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt as "Clark Kent", the mild-mannered alter ego of one of the DC All-Time greats.
The jock referred to himself as "a piece of garbage" after the on-air gaffe, made worse by memes and jokes from rival broadcasters.
"Mad Dog" is a frequent guest on First Take and hosts his own show High Heat.
He will never live down his Superman quip, even though it is a common mistake, given the status of Hunt, and the likeness of the names.
Here is the quote in its entirety:
"Why don’t you see if you can maybe get Hebert? They’re 0-2, going nowhere, why don’t you give up a fifth-round pick? See if you can get Justin Herbert. Why not? What the hell? How about [Patrick] Mahomes? They’ve won enough. Talk to Clark Kent and see if maybe they’ll take the running back [Michael] Carter and throw in an offensive lineman, see if you can get Mahomes in there. Why not?
Russo has been mocking Jets fans after the career ending injury to Aaron Rodgers, but his joke may have gone too far. Even the Man of Steel would have struggled against the Cowboys offense in the New York team’s week 2 loss to the Dallas team.
Lois Lane could have predicted the 30-10 scoreline as Rodgers’ replacement QB Zach Wilson struggled to get the Jets firing on all cylinders.
Cue the Superman jokes for Russo’s foreseeable future.
