Raiders WR Hunter Renfrow’s Role in Offense Unclear Despite Reassurances from Offensive Coordinator

The Pro Bowl wide receiver of the Las Vegas Raiders, Hunter Renfrow, was involved in trade talks, but no potential landing spots were solidified for him.

With the 2023 season, the wide receiver is trying to understand the game the Raiders want him to play.

The offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders, Mick Lombardi, claims that Renfrow hasn"t been left out of the game plan.

According to NBC Sports, Lombardi was also asked about how much Renfrow would get involved in the offense against the Pittsburgh Steelers and he said, "Hunter was a big part of the game plan in Week One and Week Two, and every player in a skill position will be in Week Three,"

"He’s not deterred, we’re not deterred, we’re just gonna go out there and keep going and try to get some production. And really at the end of the day, we care about team production not individual production. If we’re seven of eight on third down and he doesn’t have a target or Davante [Adams] doesn’t have a target, they’d much rather win the game than get the individual production. You’re right, we have to do a better job of sustaining drives and getting more plays in games therefore more targets and more opportunities come up throughout the game".

According to the NFL, in 2021, Renfrow was a Pro Bowler. He totalled 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and 9 touchdowns. The next season, head coach Josh McDaniel came in and took over the offensive space. Under McDaniel, Henfrow played 12 games and finished with only 353 yards, 37 catches, and 2 touchdowns.

Although it"s perplexing why Renfrow has faded into the background after demonstrating that he"s a Pro Bowl- athlete, the Raiders offense as a whole has been struggling this season. Renfrow will have his opportunities if the offense picks up velocity.

Lombardi, further said, "I think just overall in terms of the passing game we"ve got to stay on the field a bit more on third down and sustain drives and present more opportunities on drives moving forward,"

“The coverage can dictate one thing and the ball goes to a certain player, or we misread something at quarterback, miss a blitz pickup. All those factor into the passing game."
