On Tuesday morning, the Minnesota Vikings made it official: they signed guard Dalton Risner and had to put left tackle Olisaemeka Udoh on injured reserve.
Now, let’s talk about Risner. The news about his signing came out on Monday, thanks to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. He’s joining the Vikings for one year, and he could make up to $4 million, with $2.25 million guaranteed. That’s quite a bit of money for a guy who might not be a starter but is there to provide backup.

As for Udoh, it was pretty expected. He got hurt really badly during the game against the Philadelphia Eagles, tearing his quadriceps tendon. That’s a really tough injury, and it’s going to take him a long time, maybe up to a year, to recover.
Before they signed Risner, the Vikings had about $12.22 million in their budget to pay their players. But with Risner’s contract, that’s likely going to drop to just under $10 million once you take out any extra bonuses they might have to pay. So, they’ve got a little less cash to work with now.
