Just when you thought the New York Yankees season couldn’t get much tougher to watch, relief pitcher Greg Weissert threw what could be the worst pitch of the 2023 season in the Yankees 7-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Weissert lost his footing on the mound in the middle of his wind-up, resulting in a pitch that didn’t even reach home plate and was way outside of the batter’s box. The botched pitch perfectly sums up how the season has gone for the Yankees.
The Yankees currently have a 76-75 record and rank fourth in the American League East Division. They trail the first-place Baltimore Orioles by 19 games and also trail the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners by 7 games for the third and final Wild Card spot in the American League.
With only 11 games remaining, claiming a Wild Card bid to the postseason is their only hope and even that is a longshot. The Yankees will look to finish the season strong to avoid having a losing regular season record for the first time since 1992.
As the winningest professional sports team in American sports, the Yankees are not accustomed to seasons like this. The franchise has won 27 World Series titles with no other team having more than 11 (St. Louis Cardinals). They have established themselves as an upper-echelon professional sports organization and will look to right the ship in 2024.
