Why was Marcus Maye suspended? All the details as Saints safety gets three games for violating NFL policy

The New Orleans Saints will have the unnecessary haze of distraction after safety Marcus Maye was suspended without pay for violating the NFL Policy on Substance Abuse.

May, a former Jets player, pleaded no contest to a DUI Charge back in 2021 and received a six-month probation sentence last month. The NFL suspension came into effect a month after Maye received his probationary sentence.

The NFL policy for as first-time offender who has been convicted of, or pleaded guilty to alcohol related charges, calls for a three-game suspension.

Maye becomes the third Saints player to be suspended this season with running back Alvin Kamara serving a three-game suspension for a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Rookie quarterback Jake Haener has also been suspended for six weeks following a performance enhancing drugs policy breach.

Maye was charged for an incident which happened in Florida on 22 February 2021, which led to a charge of DUI/damage to property and person and leaving the scene of the crash.

Maye was still playing for the New York Jets at the time. He signed for the Saints in 2022.

On social media some Carolina fans are tongue in cheek asking for the result of the Saints versus Panthers game to be reversed.

The Saints went 2-0 this season with a tense 20-17 win over the Panthers in week 2.

The NFC South Division is crowded with the Falcons, Saints and Buccaneers all picking up successive wins, with the Panthers left dredging for a win.
