Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick responds after his hit ended Nick Chubb’s season: “Can’t really control what happens”

Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick understands the severity of the season-ending injury he inflicted on Nick Chubb in their 26-22 win against the Browns but is certainly not to blame for the unfortunate incident.

Chubb, the Browns star RB is the second major injury to hammer the NFL in as many weeks, after the devastating Achilles injury suffered by Jets QB Aaron Rodgers in their week 1 win over the Bills.

Fitzpatrick explains that he decided to go low when the hole opened and "[You] can’t really control what happens after you choose to make your decision. I already chose to go low," he explained.

"It’s goal line, I didn’t see anybody on him, I made the decision as soon as I saw the hole open up and him in the hole [to] go low. You can tell me how to tackle him low but it’s a fast game. It’s a game of (where) you make decisions in milliseconds" he added.

Fitzpatrick says there is nothing he would have done differently.

"It’s very unfortunate. Nick Chubb’s a great player. He makes the game a lot better when he’s playing. Just hope for a speedy recovery," he said.

The injury to the left knee has turned out far worse than initially suspected with talk of two surgeries, to repair ligament damage as well as meniscus damage.

Cleveland will host the Titans this Sunday in what will be an extremely tough assignment, with the mood and morale at the club almost akin to the lamentations in New York after the injury to Rodgers in week 1.

The Titans and the Browns are both 1-1 and this weekend’s game will have an early season impact on their win-loss trajectory. Browns fans will have to put the Chubb injury on the backburner.

The Steelers next face an away trip to the Raiders with both sporting a 1-1 start to their campaigns.
