It has been a historically bad season for the New York Yankees in 2023. At 77-76, they’re mathematically eliminated from playoff contention and on the verge of finishing with a losing record for the first time since 1992. Yankees fans have learned to appreciate the little things, such as Michael Kay’s broadcasting on YES Network.
Michael Kay: "That's a very unusual third strike call by Bacon. Some people might take that the wrong way, the way he called it."
Paul O'Neill: "You know, what? You've probably seen that on the freeway a few times. That's the abbreviated version." pic.twitter.com/sHY5Q0iL3t

Kay reacts to home plate umpire John Bacon making one of the more unique strike-three hand signals to call out Yankees slugger Aaron Judge striking out looking. “That’s a very unusual third strike call by Bacon. Some people might take that the wrong way, the way he called it.”
Former Yankees legend and current broadcast Paul O’Neill also noticed the unique motion made by Bacon behind the plate. “You know, what? You’ve probably seen that on the freeway a few times. That’s the abbreviated version.” O’Neill compares the punch out to something an angry driver does after they were just cut off on the freeway.
Despite the hilarious commentary moment, the Yankees won 5-3 against their divisional rival Toronto Blue Jays. They are now set to begin a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
With the Yankees season practically over, it is good to enjoy these small moments in what was mostly a lost season for the Bronx Bombers.
