MLB insider believes the Mets could be a team to watch, willing to spend, If Shohei Ohtani will consider moving to the East Coast.

Evaluators discuss a potential Shohei Ohtani pursuit for the Mets in a possible coming to the East Coast, and the Mets are willing to spend.

Ken Rosenthal said on a talk show,
“If he is willing to come to the East Coast, he probably wants the most of the money, so that probably points towards the Mets and Cohen.”

He also added on who is more likely to sign Ohtani expected to be the biggest trade in MLB, he said,

“I do think both teams (Mets and Yankees) will be involved at least check in, how can you not be, it’s Shohei Ohtani, Hello.”

“But getting serious about this, I would expect the Mets to be more active in that regard.”

On a more possible thread to Ohtani landing to the Mets and East Coast, Rosenthal also pointed out saying,

“Keeping in mind, their General manager Billy Eppler is the guy who signed Ohtani for the Angles, so there is a previous relationship there.”

After his elbow surgery on Tuesday, Shohei Ohtani is expected to be in a team lineup by the opening Day of 2024.

Ohtani will require a second Tommy John surgery, and he will not be able to pitch in 2024, but will be back on the bump in 2025.

Even with his UCL tear and the end of his second MVP campaign, Ohtani’s trade still figures to be the loudest free agency MLB has ever seen.
