Former NFL player Sergio Brown is alleged to have burned his mother’s clothing just before her body was discovered behind her residence in Illinois over the weekend, according to a neighbor’s account.
Authorities in Maywood are continuing their search for the 35-year-old Mr. Brown after the body of his 73-year-old mother, Myrtle Brown, was found in the Addison Creek Reservoir, determined to be a homicide victim on Sunday.
Brown, who played for various NFL teams before retiring in 2016, has reportedly posted perplexing videos in which he claims to have been kidnapped by the FBI and dismisses his mother’s death as “fake news.”
A neighbor, Carlos Cortez, told WBBM that his Ring doorbell camera recorded footage of Brown burning his mother’s clothing last Thursday. Cortez stated, “They seen him taking out the trash, and they seen him have a bonfire where he burned all her clothes.”

I know this is still an ongoing investigation. Probably, they’re still processing evidence— but why is Sergio still out there? At the very least they need to interview him regarding the homicide of his momma. He was probably the last person… pic.twitter.com/9rVqYU8RFY

Cortez also mentioned that relatives had informed him that Mr. Brown had been behaving strangely recently, although he did not specify the nature of the behavior.
“They said he wasn’t himself for the last few months. He was out of his mind,” Cortez told the outlet.
On Saturday, Brown and his mother were reported missing after not being in contact with relatives for more than 72 hours. Myrtle’s sister and law enforcement authorities subsequently made the gruesome discovery on Sunday.
