The Miami Dolphins had an opportunity to rewrite NFL history in Week 3, coming tantalizingly close to breaking the single-game points record. However, in a late fourth-quarter decision against the Denver Broncos, they chose not to attempt a field goal that could have secured their place in the record books.

In a spectacular display of offensive power, the Dolphins amassed an outstanding 70 points in their win over the Denver Broncos. This achievement positioned them as just the fourth team in NFL history to breach the 70-point threshold.

Remarkably, the Dolphins achieved this milestone with over eight minutes left in regulation, raising hopes of surpassing the all-time single-game record of 72 points, established back in 1966. Surprisingly, the Dolphins opted not to chase the record, a decision fully supported by the team’s head coach, Mike McDaniel.

McDaniel explained his reasoning, stating, “The message I thought it would send wasn’t really in line with how I view things.” He emphasized that their objective was not about pursuing records but rather maintaining a respectful approach to the game.

Following the game, McDaniel further elaborated on the decision, saying, “It felt like chasing points, chasing a record is not what we came here to do… 10 times out of 10 you concede and kneel down.”

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa echoed the sentiment of respecting the opponent, emphasizing that their focus was not on chasing scoring records.

Tagovailoa delivered an exceptional performance before being substituted for backup quarterback Mike White, who also contributed with a touchdown pass. Tagovailoa’s final stat line included 23 completions on 26 pass attempts, 309 passing yards, and four touchdown passes.

The running backs, De’Von Achane and Raheem Mostert, enjoyed significant success during the Dolphins’ scoring extravaganza. Both players found the end zone four times, contributing substantially to the team’s offensive onslaught.

Achane made a significant impact with two receiving and two rushing touchdowns, showcasing his talent as a rookie. He carried the ball 18 times for an impressive 203 yards, marking a standout performance early in his career.

Veteran running back Mostert contributed three rushing touchdowns and added one receiving touchdown to his tally, accumulating 82 rushing yards and 60 receiving yards during the game.
