Fans of the MLB were emotionally touched by Orion Kerkering’s father, seen shedding tears in the stands as his son made the MLB debut.

On Sunday, reliever Orion Kerkering made his MLB debut against the New York Mets, The Phillies won by 5-3 while he pitched a scoreless inning.

As Kerkering was proudly tearful on the historical day of his son, MLB fans also shared the emotion with him on social media.

John DeMarsico, the director of SNYtv also tweeted sharing the feelings of Kerkering’s father and extending his love for MLB, he posted,

“Orion Kerkering’s dad crying for an entire inning in his son’s MLB debut was one of the coolest moments of the season. I don’t care what team you root for.”

Kerkering was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2022 MLB draft, and soon after he made his professional debut for them.

The debutant’s impeccable performance kept the team afloat and helped his team over the line even when the Mets were catching up in the game.

Seeing his son’s impressive and unsurprising performance, Kerkering’s father could not hold back his tears, and the fans also shared their reactions.

Kerkering was drafted as a fifth-round pick of the Phillies in 2022. He is ranked as the No. 7 prospect on their list and was expected to make his debut at the start of the 2025 season.

The 20-year-old debutant Orion Kerkering evidently showcases that he’s ready to mix it up in the big leagues.
