In a recent episode of “Foul Territory,” Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rowdy Tellez recounted Josh Donaldson’s initial entrance into the clubhouse. Tellez shared that Donaldson declined to introduce himself to his new teammates, asserting that they were already aware of his identity. Tellez’s account goes as follows:

“I wasn’t scared of him to start with…,” “…I was like when you walk in the clubhouse, you introduce yourself to your teammates, and he goes everybody knows who I am. And then, I was like, yeah hey, when you see a former teammate, you say what’s up, and he said, are you on a seafood diet? and I was like, yeah good one good one, Seafood, e-food, I beat you to it, f*** off.”

The Brewers elevated Josh Donaldson, formerly of the New York Yankees, from Triple-A Nashville recently. The Yankees released the 37-year-old Donaldson in late August, parting ways with the aging third baseman after two underwhelming seasons following his trade to the team before the 2022 campaign.

Milwaukee, ranked 26th in baseball in OPS (.694), entered Monday with a 79-63 record, holding a three-game lead in the NL Central over the Cubs.

Donaldson joined the Brewers’ Triple-A squad shortly after his release from the Yankees. However, he has played only five games in the minors due to a persistent calf injury.

Donaldson is coming off the two worst seasons of his career with the Yankees, struggling with a combined .207 batting average and a .678 OPS.

Manager Aaron Boone explained the Yankees’ decision to release Donaldson, stating, “Basically just felt like it was the right thing to do. Give him the option, or the possibility, of even catching on with someone. Just felt like it was the right thing to do that now as opposed to continuing to drag it out.”

At 37 years old, Josh Donaldson is far from the player he was when he won the 2015 American League MVP Award. Nevertheless, his tenure with the Milwaukee Brewers presents an intriguing chapter in his career.
