Saints did not violate NFL rules despite having three QB’s on roster in loss to Packers

The New Orleans Saints did not violate any NFL rule in their narrow 18-017 loss to the Packers in week 3.

Derek Carr, at QB, threw for Saints game high 103 yards and 1 TD, going 13-18 before going down injured.

Carr went down heavily in the third quarter, clutching his right arm as he headed off the park, and it was revealed today he suffered an injury to his AC joint.

Carr was replaced by Jameis Winston, a former number one overall pick, signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 draft and the back-up went 10-16 and 101 yards.

The Saints did not violate any NFL rules as Carr, Winston and Taysom Hill are all on the active play roster.

The confusion came in after Hill was moved from tight end to a back-up QB in off-season. Winston was only named QB 3, but with all three on active duty the Saints were well within the rules of the game.

Winston played well for the Buccaneers in his rookie season, earning himself a Pro-Bowl selection and a clutch of franchise rookie records.

But he failed to live up to expectations in Tampa Bay, before being signed by the Saints. He has been injury prone since then and has mostly been a back-up QB.

The former Florida State QB may get an extended run as the extent of the injury to Carr will be updated week to week.
