The New York Jets seem to be in a freefall and are coming off back-to-back losses, but the team feel like they are close to returning to winning ways.
Wide receiver Garrett Wilson had a three-word message to the Jets fans, “Stick with us."
The words may feel hollow, but they are meant to assuage the Jets fans bereft of marque signing Aaron Rodgers who injured his Achilles tendon on the first snap of the season. The New York team managed to hold out for a 16-10 opening win against the Bills but find themselves bottom of the AFC East Division.
The Jets lost to the Patriots 15-10 in a tense game in week 3, after a 30-10 mauling by the Cowboys in week 2.
"I would just tell them to stick with us," he said recently, elaborating on his statement of intent.
"No one wants this more than us. We’re working every single day to make sure that y’all have a lot to root for on Sundays. You know, with that said . . . our whole season had a big change in it [16] days ago.
And then for us that was a big adjustment. We’re still figuring it out offensively, and it’s not just for us to put one dude on the dart board, you know. You got to put that whole offense on the dart board because none of us are playing to our standard right now. We’re going to continue to keep grinding to make sure that’s not the case anymore."
Wilson was talking about his namesake Zach [Wilson] without talking about him, with the QB under immense scrutiny after coming on for Rodgers in week 1. The offense has been dire, and the quarterback is throwing for a shade over 50% in completion.
That is not down to one man, as head coach Robert Saleh is trying to keep consistency weighed up to expectation.
There is no doubt both Wilsons have dreams of a reboot to the season, but they take on the defending Superbowl champions the Chiefs in week 4, and the Patrick Mahomes-charged team will look to further dent the Jets" playoff hopes early doors.
