From a legend to a burgeoning legend, Joe Burrow reveals he received injury advice from Aaron Rodgers ahead of their narrow win over the Rams I’m week 3.
Burrow toughed out the win despite being in pain and showed winning characteristics that the Bengals will need going forward this season.
The Bengal quarterback has been struggling with right calf issues and if there is one QB who understands his pain it is Rodgers.
“He’s dealt with calf issues his whole career and I wanted to use him as a resource and get his thoughts, what he might have done,” Burrow told Ben Baby of ESPN.
The Cincinnati team needed their star offensive player as they needed to get on the winning board.
A loss to the Rams would have seen the side go 0-3, but Burrow stuck it out. The team still prop the AFC North and face the 1-2 Titans in a must win game for both franchises.
“For him to tough it out, I don’t think that people realize how much pain and limited mobility he was in,” Rodgers said in the Pat McAfee Show this week.
“But for him to gut it out . . . and to make enough plays to win, like I texted him, that’s what great competitors do. They show up and play through the pain and don’t make it a big deal”.
They don’t get much tougher than league MVP Winner Rodgers, who is going through his own existential injury crisis.
Rodgers famously went down on the Jets first snap of the season with an Achilles injury and has watches his team stutter I week 2 and 3.
Jets QB Zach Wilson is facing a tough old time in New York with all sorts of comments from former players and NFL analysts.
Rodgers, at 39, has seen it all and his sharing the pain with Burrow is a sign that his mentorship at the Jets could still see fruition.
