Former Cowboys Ezekiel Elliot will return to Dallas, but under the colors of the Patriots in their week 4 shootout.
Elliott admitted that “it’s definitely gonna be weird.”
The Patriots will want to improve their season to 2-2 while the Cowboys could make it three from four wins.
Elliott spent seven prosperous years in Dallas endearing himself to the Cowboys fans and is their franchise’s third leading rusher.
“I don’t have that much time to be too emotional,” Elliott told the media. “I’ve got to prepare for a game. I’ve got to go out put my best foot forward. I mean, there are emotions”.
The fourth overall draft pick in 2016 signed with the Patriots this year and the former Ohio State RB is hoping to bring some of the heat to Texas. The Cowboys fans will not be looking forward to his return though.
He is emotional about the trip and will look to put the past to rest this Sunday.
“I may do a good job of kind of hiding them but there will be some emotions,” he added.
He is insistent there will be no hard feelings towards the team that cut him from their roster.
“Anyone that gets released or cut, it’s going to be tough mentally.”
“Life is life,” he said philosophically. “It is what it is. It was on me to get back on the horse. You can’t let negatives weigh you down”.
By his own high standards, he had an indifferent 2022, scoring no touchdowns in 14 starts and 16 total games.
“You gotta take a negative and turn it into a positive. And that’s what I’m working to do.”
The RB is likely to be used in red zone and 3rd down situations according to offensive coordinator at the Patriots Bill O’Brien.
