The Buffalo Bills have gotten off to an impressive start to the season despite missing arguably their best defensive player, Von Miller. Miller is still on the reserve/physically unable to perform list while working his way back from surgery after tearing his ACL last season. Impressively, the Bills defense hasn’t missed a beat this season despite Miller’s absence.
While the defensive performance sans Miller may surprise some, Bills defensive tackle Jordan Phillips believes in his teammates and their capability to impact the outcome of a game even without their star defender. “I think it’s a joke. Like, one person doesn’t make our D-line,” Phillps said. “Von’s a Hall of Famer… He makes us better. But we all have one beat of a drum, not just his drum,” Phillips added.
Phillips has certainly held up his end of the bargain thus far. He has one sack, one tackle for loss, and two quarterback hits in three games. The rest of the Bills defensive line is doing a great job of generating pressure and rushing the passer effectively without Miller in the lineup. In other words, it could get scary for opposing offenses when/if he does return.
Up next for Phillips and the Bills defense is their biggest test yet. They face the high-flying Miami Dolphins offense that just made history last week by becoming the third team in NFL history to score 70 or more points in a regular-season game, per StatMuse.
