Despite game-changing fumble against Chiefs, New York Jets QB Zach Wilson starting to gel

The Jets are looking at positives despite a narrow 23-20 loss to the defending Superbowl champion the Chiefs.

Head coach of the New York franchise Robert Saleh praised young quarterback Zach Wilson, despite a fumble in the fourth quarter.

I thought he was really good,” Jets head coach Robert Saleh said. “Gave us a chance to win the game, brought us back,” the wily HC said.

Wilson enjoyed his best outing since week 1 when he had to step into the not so insignificant boots of Aaron Rodgers.

Wilson has been rough around the edges but will take heart from an impressive showing.

“If he (Wilson) plays like that, we’re gonna win a lot of football games,” he added.

The QB threw 28 from 39, for an average of 71.8%.

He finished the game with a 105.2 player rating.

Wilson was disheartened by the fumble, with 7.24 remaining. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs defense did not offer another opportunity to the Jet’s offense, effectively sealing the contest.

“To be driving right there, to drop a snap, I cannot do that,” said a visibly emotional Wilson.

“I lost us that game, and I cannot do that. Was making it clear to those guys that I need to be better, I need to be better on the little things, the details. Can’t happen.”

With much of the fanfare taken up by Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Blake Lively and Taylor Swift, the MetLife Stadium felt a bit like a Superbowl within a week 4 game.

Wilson did well enough to quell the fierce criticism, as the Jets look forward to facing a frail Broncos team, with both teams 1-3.
