Did the Boston Celtics pay too much for Jrue Holiday?

The Boston Celtics have successfully acquired Jrue Holiday but at a heavy cost.

The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach has reported, “The Blazers reportedly initially sought four or five first-round picks in the trade for Jrue Holiday”.

The Boston Celtics have sent Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon, the Golden State Warriors 2024 first-round pick, and the Celtics 2029 first-round pick unprotected in turn to acquire Jrue Holiday.

As per Yahoo Sports, according to Himmelsbach, the Blazers “made it clear” that Williams had to be included in the trade even after they subsequently “softened” their initial demand.

He further stated, “Williams appeared in just 35 games last year, averaging 8 points and 8.3 rebounds, but there is a belief around the league that he is capable of much more if healthy,”

The Boston Celtics reportedly engaged “at length” with the New Orleans Pelicans about acquiring Holiday in 2020.

But before they could acquire him, he decided to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks. According to Himmelsbach, Holiday has also been on Boston’s mind for years.

Now, the Celtics have the players who had garnered their attention for three years.
