“This might be the year. I can see it” 49ers OT Trent Williams on his thoughts about RB McCaffrey winning the 2023 NFL MVP

For the past decade, the NFL"s Most Valuable Player accolade has been claimed by a quarterback.

The San Francisco 49ers recently defeated the Arizona Cardinals by a score of 35-16.

However, Offensive tackle Trent Williams of the San Francisco 49ers believes that Christian McCaffrey has the potential to break the quarterback stranglehold over the award.

According to ESPN, Williams said, "Hey, all them streaks come to an end eventually, right?"

“This might be the year. I can see it."

McCaffrey amply demonstrated his point. He gained an additional 71 receiving yards and a touchdown on seven catches. He also completed 20 carries for 106 yards and three ground scores.

McCaffrey has, in the opinion of head coach Kyle Shanahan, been performing like an MVP for a while now.

“I"m not sure on the whole rest of the league right now but I thought he played like [an MVP] last year when he was here,"

“Christian"s so awesome, he helps us win every time he"s out there, but when you"ve got a guy who can do everything, you can always have unbelievable stats, but he shares that with a lot of other guys and we do whatever it takes to win. So, that"s to me the thing that would make it the hardest for him, just stats and just how it works out."

McCaffrey, who joined the squad last season and has since impressed, received high praise from Williams.

Williams also mentioned, “It"s a pleasant surprise every Sunday,"

“He just never ceases to amaze me, hurdling a safety, standing on your feet, getting a [touchdown]. It"s just impressive."

McCaffrey and Hall of Famer Jerry Rice became the only 49ers players to record at least 150-plus scrimmage yards and four-plus touchdowns in a single game. Rice had accomplished this incredible feat twice. The running back"s four touchdowns were a career-high.

The NBA legend, James LeBron also took to platform X, formerly Twitter as he was also in awe of McCaffrey’s performance.

He is the seventh NFL player ever to have a touchdown from scrimmage in at least 13 successive games, including the playoffs.
