Bronny James, son of NBA superstar LeBron James, plans to play for USC this season despite suffering cardiac arrest during a workout in July. James’ father informed ESPN’s Dave McMenamin that his son is doing "extremely well," during the NBA’s 2023-24 Media Day.
James has "begun his rehab process to get back on the floor with his teammates and USC," [LeBron] James added.
It is believed that a congenital heart defect is what caused the episode of cardiac arrest according to statements made by the James family. A congenital heart defect is a vague way to describe any irregularity of heart configuration if the heart does not develop ordinarily before birth.
Thankfully, when James arrived at the hospital, he was cognizant and in stable condition. He was discharged not too long after the fact and seemed poised to return to the court in the "very near future" according to the Los Angeles Lakers superstar.
James is entering his freshman year at USC as a four-star recruit from Sierra Canyon (CA) High School. He averaged 14.2 points per game to go along with 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.8 assists per game during his senior year at Sierra Canyon, earning an opportunity to participate in the McDonald’s All-American Game.
USC’s season begins on Nov. 6 when they face Kansas State in the Hall of Fame Series in Las Vegas. Bronny’s status for the season-opener remains unknown, but it is great to hear he is okay and returning to the court sooner rather than later.
