The NFL are inflicting wounds on themselves, in their haste to cash in on the Taylor Swift mania.
Since Swift starting date star tight end Travis Kelce, the league has seen ratings go up, with fox and NBC looking to benefit from the feast.
But a single updated bio on the NFL Instagram page has thrown up conspiracy theories. The now deleted bio read, “Chiefs are 2-0 as swifties”. A social media intern or marketing assistant could have out that bio out as a way to gather more followers or boost the NFL but all it did was cast aspersions as to the dubious calls in the Kansas City’s win over the Jets in New York.
Taylor Swift was in attendance at the game, along with Blake Lively as she cheered her new Beau Kelce. The commentary team keep swooping into the box as three bad calls were made, ultimately leading to the Jets heartbreaking 23-20 loss.
The Jets could have got their season back on track with a win against the defending Superbowl champions, but three apparent bad calls ruled that out.
Ironically this was the game where new QB Zach Wilson enjoyed his best game since replacing the injured Aaron Rodgers early in week 1. Cruelly Wilson fumbled the ball with eight minutes on the clock remaining and Patrick Mahomes closed out the game.
The Jets fans, notoriously hard nuts to crack, are still furious and will be all season.
The game at the MetLife Stadium has seen a conspiracy theory levelled against the NFL, who in their craving for Swift mania, made a social media faux pau.
Try telling that to a Jets supporter and see how much sympathy footballs new power couple will get. Probably fewer than Kelce caught all night in a frustrating performance for the celebrities cheering on in the VIP boxes.
