Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith did not mince words after the team’s 24-3 victory against the New York Giants in MetLife Stadium on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. During the game, Giants safety Isaiah Simmons brought Smith down to the turf in the second quarter on what Smith called a “dirty play,” forcing Smith to miss the rest of the first half with a knee injury that required him to receive X-rays.
Fortunately, Smith was able to return to the game in the second half and help guide the Seahawks to victory. However, he was still not happy with Simmons after the game and made it known to ESPN’s Lisa Salters.
“There’s no place in this sport for that,” Smith told Salters. He went on to mention that “it’s a hard-fought game out there… but no need to take shots at guys running out of bounds on the sideline.”
What frustrated Smith was that while it was a legal hit on Smith, he was already out of bounds. Luckily for both Smith and the Seahawks, their Week 5 bye week will give him extra time to heal before the Week 6 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
“I’m fine, God is good,” Smith told Salters.
Smith completed 13 of his 20 pass attempts on Monday night for 110 passing yards and one touchdown in the Seahawks impressive road victory, helping the team win their third consecutive game and improving their record to 3-1 through the first four weeks of the 2023-24 NFL season.
