The NFL broadcast, podcast and announcing wards are just as competitive and ferocious as any on-field action and continues to amuse viewers.
Former players, current analysts and veteran broadcasters are constantly having a pop against each other, and in this case, ESPN forced Joe Buck to switch from ABC to ESPN to catch Will Ferrell on the ManningCast.
Troy Aikman stood his ground with a quip about keeping it classy, as viewers from both ABC and ESPN were asked to switch to ESPN2 for the Ferrell section of the Peyton and Eli Manning show.
Buck and Aikman are contracted to cover Monday Night Football and are paid over$30 million to promote the games for ESPN, but asking viewers to switch channels in the middle of the Seahawks versus Giants game is a little askew.
Buck had to read the promo a scripted version of the famous Will Ferrell line from Anchorman, saying “Stay classy.”
Aikman is as competitive on air as he was on the field and the three-time Superbowl winner yielded nothing. The former Cowboys QB probably did not like yielding the spotlight to fellow former QB’s, the Mannings.
Aikman responded to Buck, saying “Stay classy and stay here.” In fact, he repeated that sentiment twice.
We love the showmanship, the rivalry between former quarterbacks, and while we are as confused as the viewer flipping channels mid-game, we thrive on the competition between legends of the game.
Oh, and the Seahawks went 3-1 with a convincing 24-3 win.
