“So it’s just a little glitch right now” Seahawks HC Pete Carroll is optimistic about Safety Jamal Adams’ return to field after head injury

In the Monday night game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New York Giants, Seahawks safety Jamal Adams made his much-anticipated return to the field after recovering from a torn left quad tendon.

However, his return was cut short when he suffered a concussion during the opening series of the game.

During the ninth play of the game, Adams experienced a knee-to-helmet collision while attempting to tackle Daniel Jones, the Giants’ quarterback.

Following the game, Coach Pete Carroll provided reassurance that Adams is expected to recover fully from the concussion.

According to Carroll, Adams should be ready to play in Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals after the Seahawks’ bye week.

“He got kicked in the head and so he misses this game, but the preparation to get him to this and then with the week coming off, he’s going to be fine, I’m sure, and then be back out there,” Carroll said. “So it’s just a little glitch right now.”

He initially remained on the ground for a moment before attempting to stand up, appearing visibly unstable as he did so. With the assistance of team staff, Adams made his way off the field.

Soon after, Adams came out from the medical tent and became visibly angry, directing his frustration towards one of the NFL’s unaffiliated neurotrauma consultants.

The head athletic trainer and two members of the Seahawks’ security staff intervened, preventing Adam from further confrontation.

“By the time they got all the assessments done, he couldn’t play,” Carroll said when asked about Adams’ frustration. “Somebody said something that wasn’t with us. It was somebody else that he might have responded to. I’m not sure about that.”

Despite their efforts, Adams remained visibly upset as he left the field. In a brief encounter with a heckler, Adams exchanged words before sharing a high-five with a supportive Seahawks fan wearing his jersey.

Prior to Monday’s game, Adams had already missed a significant number of regular-season games due to previous injuries.

Since joining the Seahawks in a high-profile trade with the New York Jets in 2020, Adams had been sidelined for 28 out of 53 possible games.

This included a quad tendon tear in Week 1 of the previous season, a serious injury that prompted him to contemplate retirement momentarily.

“He’ll be fine,” Carroll said. “Frustrating start, but all of the work he did to get here is what preps him for the next time coming around, and he’s going to be a big part of what we’re doing.”
