Chicago Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool is set to miss his second consecutive game this week after criticizing the team about the way they have used him since he arrived in Chicago last season.
Claypool was asked point blank if he feels that the Bears are putting him in the best position to showcase his talents as a wide receiver, to which he answered “No,” after a brief pause.
Since then, Claypool has been told to stay home while the Bears front office works to find Claypool a new home. Bears quarterback Justin Fields acknowledged the recent set of events during his media availability on Tuesday. “I think he knows that he kind of messed up by saying that, but I wish him nothing but the best,” Fields told Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times.
The Bears traded their second-round pick in last year’s NFL Draft, which turned out to be the No. 32 overall pick in the draft after the Bears finished last season with the worst record in the NFL and the Dolphins had their first-round pick revoked for violating league policies. Essentially, the Bears traded a first-round pick for a wide receiver they have barely used since making the trade.
Claypool was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In his first two seasons, he recorded two consecutive 850-plus-yard seasons before being traded to the Bears in 2022. Since then, he has recorded less than 200 receiving yards in 10 games with the Bears.
It seems as though Claypool’s brief stint with the Bears is nearing the end. It has been reported that he will be released if the Bears cannot find a suitable trade partner.
