Sometimes, when history is made, it is tough to understand the magnitude of the moment in real-time. Especially, when it comes to historic performances in sports. Sports leagues and organizations have such rich and extensive histories that it can be difficult to wrap your head around what is happening.
That is why MLB Hall of Famer Tom Glavine took the time to give insight and contextualize the remarkable feat accomplished by Atlanta Braves slugger, Ronald Acuna Jr. Acuna became the first player in MLB history to hit at least 40 home runs and steal 70 bases in the same season and Glavine wants to make sure people understand the greatness they’re witnessing when they watch Acuna.
“When you talk about somebody who is doing something that nobody in the history of the game has ever done, that’s usually a really good thing,” Glavine stated during an appearance on Outkick’s Don’t @ Me with Dan Dakich.
“Ronald Acuna is a really special player,” Glavine added. He acknowledged the fact that Acuna is finally starting to look like the player we saw glimpses of in 2021 before he suffered a torn ACL. “
Glavine doesn’t seem too surprised that a player of Acuna’s caliber is etching his name in the record books. Glavine, who enjoyed some of the greatest years of his career with the Braves, is hopeful that Acuna’s success will translate to the MLB Playoffs.
Acuna and the Braves are awaiting to face the winner of the National League Wild Card Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins in the Divisional Series.
