Contrary to popular belief, Patrick Cantlay’s decision to not wear a hat at the 2023 Ryder Cup at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy is not related to the rumored tensions in the US Team locker room. US Team Vice Captain Jim Furyk weighed in on the matter to clear the air and assure that the US Team is focused on doing what they need to do to defeat Team Europe at the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Furyk stated that the hats that were distributed to the team for the tournament simply don’t fit Cantlay’s head the way he’d like it to, but SkySports’ Jamie Weir believes it goes beyond that. “Pat, he’s got a big noggin,” said Furyk.

Weir insisted that Cantlay’s decision to not wear a hat is a form of protest about the players not being paid to participate in the Ryder Cup. Additionally, Weir stated that Cantlay didn’t attend the gala dinner earlier in the week as another form of protest, but photo evidence suggests otherwise. Weir forgot the mention that Cantlay also chose not to wear a hat during the 2021 Ryder Cup.

This all comes off the heels of a report Weir made when he said the US Team room was “fractured.”

Cantlay was asked to respond to the reports made by Weis and echoed the comments made by Furyk regarding the way the hat fits his head (or lack thereof).
