Michael Malone is in his ninth year as head coach of the Denver Nuggets, and with 22 years’ experience in the NBA, has earned the right to riposte sharp comments from relative upstarts.
Those upstarts may be the likes of Anthony Davis and LeBron James of the LA Lakers, who are still smarting from their Western Conference final loss to the Denver team in four games.
The HC led the team to an NBA title last season and hit back at Davis’s recent remarks of how the Nuggets talk too much.
“Oh, they’re talking about us? That was what, 4 months ago?… if they’re still worried about us, that’s on them… if we’re on their minds, then I guess that’s on them,” Malone said.
Malone served his head coach apprenticeship at the Kings before switching to Denver after being released by Sacramento side.
Lakers guard Austin Reaves was also upset with the apparent smack talk of the Nuggets after their swept the series.
The Lakers and the Nuggets have not always been traditional foes but of late the rivalry has grown and this season’s games promise lively action on and off the court.
