Outgoing CBS Sports Chairman Sean MacManus has made some pivotal calls in his 27-year career at the broadcaster, and he believes two current NFL coaches would dazzle in a commentating role.
Sean McVay and Mike Tomlin have been ‘scouted’ by MacManus, who will retire in April next year.
The Sports broadcast legend famously spotted Tony Romo to replace Phill Simms, and the former Cowboys quarterback has been a success at CBS, alongside Jim Nantz.
He told viewers of the recent Marchand and Ourand Sports Media Podcast his ideas on who will be great in the broadcast booth.
“I’ve always thought Mike Tomlin, if he ever wanted to do it, would be terrific,” he said.
“Sean McVay, I think, would be terrific also”.
McVay is a particular favorite of broadcasting head-hunters, but the Rams head coach is not ready to make the transition.
He did make the caveat that “(I wouldn’t) run away from the fact that down the line or whenever that is, that’s something that I’ve been interested in,” the HC said.
Steelers coach Tomlin has shown no interest in a life after coaching, but MacManus has proven an astute judge of character and presence.
