“He ain’t really going to come out here and fight” – Colby Covington taunts Islam Makhachev, suggests lightweight champion is ducking him

Colby Covington believes reigning lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is scared to take him on and reckons the Dagestani will back out, despite being full of fighting talk.

Chaos Covington will fight Leon Edwards in a welterweight bout at UFC 296 set for December 16 in Las Vegas.

The blockbuster fight will be keenly observed by more than just fans and pundits with a clutch of fellow fighters looking at the result with more than a keen interest.

Makhachev stated that he hopes Covington wins so he can take him on and become a dual weight champion.

But Chaos is having none of the talk and believes Islam is using his name for headlines rather than a serious tilt at a potential title.

Covington and Edwards will do battle, and the winner will be the most (or least) popular fighter on the lips of cage warriors the world over.

“You know, he’s just saying that to get a headline,” Covington told Submission Radio recently.

“He ain’t really going to come out here and fight. He’s another guy that he’s going to run his mouth, try and hype up a fight, but he’s never going to actually step up and do it. Khabib (Nurmagomedov) did the same thing.

“So, they know that American wrestling is the best. That Sambo sh*t don’t work. He would get worked like any day of the week in grappling or wrestling in America. He’s over there, you know, playing with sheep, doing his thing over there”.

Chaos is not known for his subtlety and will taunt and needle Makhachev at any juncture, except maybe in the lead up to his Edwards bout.
