Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark has taken the world by storm since leading the Hawkeyes to an appearance in last season’s NCAA Championship. Her combination of scoring, court vision, and playmaking combined with the flare she brings to the court has made her a fan favorite. One person that’s taken notice is ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who compared Clark to NBA superstar Stephen Curry.

“I think she’s the Steph Curry of women’s basketball,” Smith stated during his segment on ESPN’s First Take when he was asked which player he is most excited to see during the upcoming women’s college basketball season. Smith highlights that the comparison to Curry comes from her incredible jump shot and ability: “She is a spectacular sniper,” Smith added.

Last season, Clark led the nation in three-pointers made per game (3.7) while shooting 38.9 percent from beyond the arc on 360 three-point attempts. The next closest player in three-point attempts was South Florida’s Sammie Puisis (282). Clark’s ability to take and make threes at a high volume is eerily reminiscent of Curry and his style of play in the NBA, which is why he’s often regarded as the greatest shooter ever.

Clark also led the country in assists per game (8.6) while ranking second in points per game (27.8). As Smith highlights on First Take, Clark is entering this season with a chip on her shoulder after she was not able to lead the Hawkeyes over the LSU Tigers in the National Championship. It will be exciting to see if Clark can continue living up to the well-deserved hype she’s been receiving.
