After trading up to the No.1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to acquire their quarterback of the future and undergoing a major coaching staff overhaul this offseason, there was excitement coming out of Carolina for the Panthers after failing to win more than seven games in each of the past five seasons. However, things haven’t necessarily gone as planned through the first five weeks of the season.
The Panthers are currently 0-5 and the only remaining winless team in the NFL through five weeks. Quarterback Bryce Young has failed to live up to the lofty expectations set for him thus far and the team has struggled mightily, but head coach Frank Reich is urging his players not to give up just yet.
“Keep fighting, it’s going to make an impact,” Reich stated in his postgame comments after the Panthers’ 42-24 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. “…it’s going to make an impact this year, tomorrow, and future days,” Reich added.
Reich is doing his best to instill a culture and mindset in the Panthers locker room that goes beyond wins and losses. It is on him and the rest of the coaching staff to rally the troops and make sure the players are bought in despite the less-than-ideal start to the season.
Up next for the Panthers is a Week 6 road game against the 4-1 Miami Dolphins and their high-octane offense. The odds will certainly be against them in Miami as they look to right the ship and get their first victory of the season.
