“Fire Canada” chants break out in Pelicans NHL game, targeting Pittsburgh Steelers OC Matt Canada

Steelers fans are known to be vocal, passionate and diverse.

That was at the forefront of the odd scenes at the PPG Paints Arena when the Penguins opened their NHL season with a 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks.

The crowd started chanting, “Fire Canada,” during the game in reference to the Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

It seems Canada is under severe pressure despite the team coming off a 17-10 win to the Ravens.

Why were the fans not chanting for HC Mike Tomlin to hit the road is not clear?

Nothing in Pittsburgh sport ever is we guess.

Pittsburgh fans can be rough though, with the Steelers topping the AFC North going into week 6.

The hockey fans were more worried about the OC at the Steelers and were in full voice despite their opening game loss. This is not only ironic, but it also borders on surreal.

Canada has been skating on thin ice for a while though and since his tenure started the Steelers have ranked in the bottom third offensively since 2021.

Head coach Tomlin and quarterback Kenny Pickett are bit being targeted yet as Canada is the fall guy as the Pittsburgh team finished their third game of the season with less than 20 points on the board.

The Steelers have conceded (110) more than they have scored (79) and the fans are not happy, on the rink or on the football field.

What will it take to keep Canada safe, a playoff spot, a Superbowl appearance or even an offense that matches its defense. All we know is Canada is under strain.
