John Smoltz, the MLB on Fox analyst, often finds himself on the receiving end of nasty feedback from fans, regardless of what he says.
Like many other national sports broadcasters, he has his supporters and critics, and recently, his name was trending on X during the ALDS Game 3.
During the game, the Texas Rangers took an early 6-0 lead over the Baltimore Orioles on their way to a three-game sweep.
It was at this point that Smoltz made a comment that surprised many fans. He suggested that if the Rangers completed the sweep, it would appear as though they dominated the Orioles, when in reality, that wasn’t the case.
This remark came after the Rangers had already won the previous game with a 10-4 lead. Smoltz seemed to be playing the apologist for the Orioles’ collapse, stating that if the series were played ten more times, the results would be drastically different.
This perspective seemed to be the main criticism against Smoltz. Fans believed that he favored the Baltimore Orioles in the series.

The Orioles get swept by the Rangers and all @MLBONFOX announcer John Smoltz can do is praise how great they've been. How long has he been on the Orioles payroll?

As a result, Smoltz did not receive positive reception on social media during and after the game. Fans took the opportunity to criticize the former Atlanta Braves star and Hall of Famer.
Like Tim McCarver, another renowned MLB analyst, Smoltz has his fair share of fans, but there is also a vocal contingent who have grown tired of his commentary.
