NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s contract not yet signed, but according to reports he will all but stay on

The NFL Commissioner position is not signed, sealed and delivered as yet, but incumbent Roger Goodell is set to remain at the helm.

Goodell has expressed his desire to remain until the Spring of 2027, and according to the Washington Post his extension is all but guaranteed.

But nothing is as it seems in sport anymore and a contract extension is only as strong as soon as it is signed.

“You just know it’s going to get done, and you don’t worry about it,” an unnamed source told the media outlet. “Do the owners still want him? The answer is yes. Does Roger still want to be there? The answer is yes. It’s no problem.”

The longer the contract is unsigned the stronger Goodell’s leverage, as a Plan B has not been touted.

He could also just walk away leaving the NFL rudderless, and in a weak position, something the owners do not tolerate.
