Steelers OC Matt Canada Continues to be Scrutinized Even When he is Helping the Team Win

Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers getting off to a 3-2 start and being in first place in the AFC North through the first five weeks, Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada has been the center of attention. Many fans and critics are looking for any reason for Canada to be relieved of his duties and feel as though the team is winning games despite the offensive production (or lack thereof).

The Steelers completed an impressive comeback victory last week against their divisional rival Baltimore Ravens and it was the offense that got the job done when the game was on the line and it mattered most. Yet still, fans want to crucify Canada because he didn’t seem to relish the moment the way fans had hoped.

Quarterback Kenny Pickett connected with wide receiver George Pickens on what was the game-winning 41-yard touchdown and a clip surfaced of Canada in the coaching booth that saw him showing no emotion after the fact, while the rest of the coaching staff in the booth broke out in celebration in response to the touchdown.

Whatever the reason may be for the lack of excitement, it riled up the fans and their disdain for Canada even more so than before. With over a minute remaining in the game and the Ravens still having two timeouts remaining, maybe Canada didn’t want to begin celebrating prematurely knowing the Ravens still had an opportunity to win the game.

Regardless, it’s clear that nothing Canada does will be good enough for Steelers fans at this point while he continues to face public scrutiny for the Steelers offensive struggles.
