Tied at 1-1 in Wednesday’s game against the Braves, Harper entered the plate with clear motivation to score and sent the ball deep into the right field.
The home run led the Phillies to take the 4-1 lead and eventually, The Phillies ended the third inning with a 6-1 advantage.
The incredible home run came after the loss in Monday’s game 2 on a base-running blunder and the reaction of Atlanta infielder Orlando Arcia after the play.
Fox Sports reported after Monday’s Braves win that Arcia shouted,
“ha-ha, atta-boy, Harper!”
Possibly in response to Arcia’s reaction to game 2, Harper very much took a good look at Arcia both times he rounded the bases.
Harper wasn’t done with the business, as he hit another home run in the fifth inning and he stared down Arcia again. Harper in the playoffs for the last two years, has hit six home runs in last year’s playoffs and already has two in the playoffs this year.
Harper’s presence in Game 3 was early, he hit a three-run shot and again in the fifth, also came close to a third home run in the sixth.
With the two home runs, Harper set the record for homers in NLDS history, with 10 in his career (passing Braves great Chipper Jones) in just 26 games.
On Wednesday the Phillies packed six home runs, attempting the record for most in a game in MLB postseason history and a 2-1 lead in this NLDS.
