Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff may be sidelined for the entire 2024 season after undergoing surgery to repair the anterior capsule in his throwing shoulder on Friday. The Brewers have indicated that Woodruff is likely to miss most, if not all, of the upcoming season. This unfortunate injury caused the two-time All-Star to be absent during the Brewers’ National League Wild Card Series, where they faced a loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Matt Arnold, the Brewers’ president of baseball operations, expressed his sentiments, stating, “Brandon is not only one of the best pitchers in our franchise’s history but is also a valued member of our organization off the field. He and his wife, Jonie, have gone above and beyond here in the community. Brandon’s health is our top priority at this point in time.”

The surgery was performed by Texas Rangers team physician Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell had previously announced on October 2nd that Woodruff had a capsular injury in his throwing shoulder, which unfortunately ruled him out of participating in the playoffs.

This injury was a setback in an already challenging season for Woodruff, as he had previously missed four months due to a subscapular strain in his shoulder. After returning to action in early August, he made a total of nine starts and displayed excellent performance, boasting a 5-1 record with a remarkable 2.28 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 67 innings.

Woodruff, aged 30, had a salary of $10.8 million for the year and is currently eligible for arbitration. He can potentially become a free agent following the 2024 season. Over his seven seasons with the Brewers, he has compiled a 46-26 record with a solid 3.10 ERA.
