In Game 1 of the American League Championship Series, the Texas Rangers on Sunday night secured a 2-0 win in the opener.
Jordan Montgomery shut down the Houston Astros as the Texas Rangers did just enough against Justin Verlander"s side to get a 2-0.
Montgomery managed to pitch a five-hit ball over 6 1/3 innings and the 21-year-old rookie, Evan Carter, made two nifty defensive plays in left field.
In the starting line of Game One of the ALCS, Verlander was one of the most experienced postseason pitchers in baseball history. He went 6 2/3 innings and gave up six hits and two runs.
Clearly, he had difficulty in getting Rangers hitters to swing-and-miss at anything, less strike them out. In the post-game, he shared,
"I was a bit erratic the first couple of innings, especially fastball control. I thought it cleaned up as the game went along. I kind of started finding my groove there in the last few innings. Obviously, one bad pitch resulted in another run to [Leody Taveras] there. Overall, I thought as the game went along, it got better and better."
Texas manager Bruce Bochy after the win also shared on the accomplishment, he said,
"We just found a way to get a couple of runs across the board. That was the difference in the game, obviously. But our guy was really good, Monty, a terrific job he did."
Astros the defending champion of the ALCS for a seventh straight year run into a tough time bringing out anything against Montgomery.
As for the stats, he has been excellent in the last month, with just two earned runs over 27 innings in his last four starts of the regular season.
