“Yeah, I’m confident,” Patriots QB Mac Jones not Losing Faith Despite Horrific Start to Season

When quarterback Mac Jones fell to the New England Patriots in the 2021 NFL Draft, they did not hesitate to select him with the No. 15 overall pick. After just losing future Hall of Fame Quarterback Tom Brady, who spent 20 years with the Patriots and won six Super Bowls in the process, Jones was viewed as the heir apparent.

The expectations for Jones were sky-high as he had some big shoes to fill. Jones seemed to be trending in the right direction as a rookie, leading the Patriots to a 10-7 record and a playoff appearance in 2021. Since then, Jones and the Patriots have failed to regain their form. Not only has Jones not regained his form, but he looks like a shell of the quarterback he was in 2021.

The Patriots are 1-5 through the first six weeks of 2023 and have been one of the worst offenses in the NFL. Jones has thrown for 200 or fewer yards and at least one interception in each of the past three weeks. In that span, the Patriots are averaging just 6.66 points per game and have failed to score a touchdown in two of the three games.

Despite the struggles, Jones remains confident in his ability to help the team turn things around and salvage what seems to be a lost season for the Patriots. “Yeah, I’m confident,” Jones stated in his press conference when asked if he feels like he can be the one to help right the ship. “I think that comes from years of experience and earning respect from people,” Jones added.

Jones’ next opportunity to get back on track will be in Week 7 when the Patriots host the Buffalo Bills.
