CBS Analyst Tony Romo Goes Full Galaxy Brain Mode with Unique Play Call Idea

As a former NFL quarterback, Tony Romo is a student of the game. This has been evident during his time with CBS as an analyst and member of their broadcast team. Romo has an innate ability to predict what play is happening before it happens because he experienced it himself during his 13-year NFL career. But, he’s also made some unique calls in the booth and his most recent one raised plenty of eyebrows.

With the New England Patriots trailing 19-10 to the Las Vegas Raiders and just over three minutes remaining on the game clock, running back Rhamondre Stevenson plunged into the end zone for a one-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to three. Afterward, as kicker Chad Ryland was coming out to kick the extra point, Romo strangely pondered whether or not attempting a two-point conversion would be more beneficial.

"I always wondered in this situation right here, you can go for one and obviously you make it where a field goal wins the game," Romo prefaced his suggestion with. "But I always, if you go for two and you get it, Jim [Nantz], then you can be really aggressive on defense and if they score you’re still down eight points…" Romo went on to say.

Romo alluded to it himself, the Patriots allowed themselves to potentially win the game with a field goal by kicking the extra point. With that said, why would they go for two in that situation? It sounds like a lot of risk for minimal reward in a situation where three points could win the game for the Patriots.
